Dan Beachy-Quick, Eleni Sikelianos, and Ed Roberson were all filmed in Hyde Park, Chicago. They were reading for a
Chicago Review release--the Barbara Guest issue, and the editors--Bobby Baird, V. Joshua Adams, and Leila Wilson--
were nice enough to let me stand up near the readers with my camera. This was July 17, 2008.
Patrick Culliton and Nicole Wilson were both filmed in our old apartment in Rogers Park, up at Greenview and Howard.
That was Fourth of July, 2008. The movies of Lisa Fishman and Rick Meier were also shot in Rogers Park, at their old
place on August 26, 2008. And the footage for the Dollers' film was shot--if I remember correctly--on the walk home that night.
When we still lived up on the far north side of Chicago, the sealing around our bathtub corroded to the point where it began to leak--
through a light fixture--into the apartment below us. Our neighbor was--among other things--irate. This had happened before
apparently. But this time, it was happening when I was supposed to meet Laura Goldstein on campus where we both work,
on Lake Michigan. I think this was the only filming I missed. Laura kindly rescheduled after waiting alone for some time.
It was September 2008, and it sort of looks like Cancun for a second. I assure you that Lake Michigan does not look like that
in January.
A few weeks earlier, on August 25, I took the red line to the Chicago stop to meet Nathalie Stephens at the Water Tower.
The spacey ambient noise is Chicago traffic on the Magnificent Mile.
Three days earlier, Lily and I met Tim Yu for lunch and filmed this outside some science buildings on the campus
of University of Chicago.
Lily's second movie for the journal was shot in January 2008 at my old apartment on Altgeld Street in Lincoln Park.
We saw a white owl there that day.
Susan Scarlata was filmed in October 2008 in Fayetteville, Arkansas during a conference she put on for Frank Stanford.
Back on February 27, 2008 I filmed John Keene at Danny's, on Damen and Dickens, in Chicago. And Abe Smith's reading
was filmed at Danny's too, a couple months later on May 21st.
Perhaps my favorite movie, Philip Jenks was also filmed at Danny's, but not during a pubic reading.
This was shot on July 20, 2008. Everywhere I go in this city, people stop me to ask if that was really Philip dancing. Yes.
